Waterfall Failure all ready

 

 

The new stream and waterfall has failed all ready after only a few weeks. The whole design is flawed and doomed to failure. The water is pumped from the little pond by the lake it then runs down the stream back to the pond and it will loose some water by evaporation. But some goes to the base for the bog garden which is a pond all most. So which bright spark thought that one up? Over time if there is no rain the water leaking to the bog means its slowly empting the pond as it not refilled. So then the water will get low and the pump wont be able to pump water only air and may then blow the pump up as it wont be cooled by the water. This is what you get when people dont know what  they are doing. The answer is cheap drill some holes in the pond wall so the lake will keep it full as it will then be at the same level as the lake. Holes higher up the wall are needed so if there is a lot of rain water can seep into the lake above the water line. The water fall its self has no pressure and half the area is just going mouldy as its barley a trickle down stream but this may be adjustable.

More floods in the Park

Some work has continued on Coronation walk after police stopped the work as they didn't have the correct licence. The pipe for the waterfall is half in from the lake to the bridge is in and covered the pipe is in the other side but not yet covered the weather hasn't help.

To fit the pump means draining the little pool which they tried to do last week then the floods came and filled it you cant even see the wall.

 

The lake is the highest its ever been never seen the boating jetty covered in water in the last 10 years

 

Water is flowing in at a terrific rate the problem is the sluice gate to empty the lake cant be opened as the controls got buried under the path when the new paths were put in. I cant believe in  this day and age with geo fiz etc the cant find the controls

Its been reported over the last few weeks the dangerous state of some trees on the perimeter of the park I counted at least 22 dead branch's that could cause serious injury if they fall  this week a tree fell but luck it fell into the park so no one was hurt on the public path

The lake is once again flooding due to blocked sluice gate and heavy rain

Work on Coronation walk has got under way with a 1/4 of the park blocked off for the work the path was the first thing to go  and then a trench dug to take the pipe for the waterfall from the lake to the top of the fall

 

The trench is deep and goes a long way the council have not carried out the work to its own standards as left exposed wildlife can fall in and not get out.

The council own procedure have not been followed which are

Excavated trenches should be covered if left overnight or an escape ladder should be installed to prevent entrapment of  local wildlife;

• Piles of spoil should be stored on pallets off the ground or should be covered if left overnight and these should be stored away from the area

The Police attended the park on Wednesday to stop work as the council require a licence from Natural England that they failed to obtain which means its once again they committed a criminal wildlife crime. They carried out a survey which they claimed was done in September but was in fact done last May. Such a survey is a snapshot in time and useless a year later as anything could have happened in the mean time. They were advised by the wildlife group that they need a licence from Natural England after last year were they nearly killed wildlife in the park  but ignored the advice. As for a lot of wildlife its now breeding season extra precautions need to be taken to protect wildlife Natural England wanted the Police called as its an offence not to have a license from them. Given the problems last year why they didn't get a license seems stupid a quick call the them could have clarified the situations and the law could have been obeyed.

4 Days to get dangerous tree fixed

Once again the sluice gates are jammed and the lake is flooding with islands nearly underwater this keeps happening and all that is needed is netting to stop big branch and rubbish blocking it

 

This dangerous branch which could have fallen and killed someone took 4 days and reported 4 times before it was fixed. They cut that the branch but there are at least 20 more that are dead and dangerous that they left inch from this dead branch. They have a duty of care which they are not for filling and as children walk this way to school lets hope they sort it before someone gets killed 

This is the final report for this year I started the site in 2008 when the restoration should have taken a year and still its not finished. Next year they start on Coronation walk which they said would start in September and be finished by Xmas. Now it seems it will start in the new year when its the breeding season for lots of wildlife last time they killed or nearly killed lots of wildlife including badgers and rabbits and the contractors offered physical violence to  anyone complaining

Myxomatosis in the park

Another swan has arrived in the park this time its a male so it may fall in love and stay and breed

 

With lots of rain the islands are going under water again as sluice gates aren't working properly

A rabbit seen in the park with Myxomatosis  note the eye.  Myxomatosis is a viral infection of rabbits, caused by a member of the Poxvirus family. It is usually transmitted by insects and is usually fatal. Anyone with rabbit coming to the park could carry the infection home with them so its important to have them inoculated.

Autumn arrives

As Autumn arrives its good to see the Robin in the park reminds you of Xmas

Our friend Woody The woodpecker you often here him but don't often see him

The flowers on the main drive are looking good but any day now they will be replaced with spring flowers ready for next year

 

This tree is one of the first in Crewe to change colour and a sure sign autumn is underway

Dirty Lake

Two new Moorhens this week

They have been cleaning the rubbish by the sluice gate but as a results the lake is very dirty and stinks

The other moorhens are growing but look at the state of the water their walking in

 

The bottom island has lots of yellow from the broom Burma Island is looking good but the path is still fenced off as the flags have to be relayed and the man is off sick  there must be others who can fix the cockup.

New Wildlife

The swan had a fit this week she came off the island and headed for the bubbles and spent time diving into the spray

The Moorhen baby takes his first swim around the lake after spending a week or so on the island

The Canada geese have had babies this week wit this nice one and other with mum

The first ducks of the years with 7 young very often they don't all survive
